Antique Victorian Amethyst Intaglio Fob Pendant 18ct Gold

An exquisite antique Victorian fob pendant modelled in 18ct gold and inlaid with an amethyst intaglio seal underneath with the French phrase ¡°Paix a Mon Ami¡± engraved at the front, meaning ¡°Peace to my friend¡±. This is complemented by an image of a dove with an olive branch in its beak which is also symbolic of peace.

Fob pendants were originally worn alongside a gentleman¡¯s pocket watch and often featured an engraved intaglio seal underneath depicting an image, phrase, or monogram that was significant to the owner and could be stamped into sealing wax on important documents or even love letters to distant sweethearts. They¡¯re highly collectable today and look wonderful on the end of a chain.?

The workmanship is truly exquisite with ornate decoration and floral motifs engraved around the top and base. It¡¯s a great collector¡¯s piece, dating to the mid-19^th Century and has remained in excellent condition. ?
